Root canal treatment
When the nerve (pulp) of a tooth is infected, a root canal treatment allows you to keep the tooth and avoid having it extracted.
But what exactly is a root canal? What is the nerve or pulp of the tooth?
The tooth pulp is actually a soft tissue in the center of the tooth that contains the nerves and blood vessels that allow the tooth to grow. It is this part of the tooth that gives it its vitality and sensitivity.

If the tooth has a very deep cavity or a large break in the tooth, the bacteria can infiltrate and reach the pulp. At this stage, the pulp reacts, there is inflammation and the tooth becomes painful. In some cases, the bacteria can lead to pulp necrosis, which means that the tooth loses its vitality. Bacteria can then multiply more easily and cause abscesses (swelling). Root canal treatment consists of cleansing and removing the pulp and the bacteria in the tooth.
